About Dr. Pericleous

Dr. Pericleous is a consultant gastroenterologist with additional accreditations in hepatology (liver disease) and general internal medicine. He currently holds a substantive consultant position at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.

He received his medical degree from University College London and Royal Free Medical School in London. During his training, he gained extensive experience in the management of all aspects of general gastroenterology, nutrition, gastrointestinal cancers, inflammatory bowel disease, and hepatology. He also worked as a senior clinical fellow at the ENETS Centre of Excellence of the Royal Free Hospital, developing his expertise in the management of neuroendocrine tumours of the digestive tract. As a higher trainee, he worked at the renowned Sheila Sherlock hepatology and liver transplant centre of the Royal Free Hospital in London. Subsequently,   he   completed   his

advanced hepatology training at the Institute of Liver Studies of King’s College Hospital, including the Liver Intensive Therapy Unit. He further honed his expertise in complex hepatology by working at the distinguished liver unit of St. Mary's hospital in Paddington, and as a visiting fellow at the Yale-New Haven Liver Centre in the United States. 

 

Dr. Pericleous is a dedicated researcher and advocate for professional development. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in liver diseases and has presented his research at numerous regional, national, and international conferences. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles on various aspects of gastroenterology, hepatology, nutrition, and cancer, and is widely published in high-impact journals, including Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology. He has also authored several book chapters in his field. Currently, he serves as the principal investigator on several clinical trials in his area of expertise. In recognition of his services in medicine and research, he was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2024.

Furthermore, Dr. Pericleous is a JAG-accredited endoscopist (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) and conducts weekly diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic lists. He is also an established endoscopy trainer. Moreover, he has been trained in delivering hepatic ultrasonography and fibroscanning of the liver (elastography).
